Na Aulis

Inspired by the play Ifigine in Aulis I directed the piece Na Aulis (*After Aulis) at the Academy for Theater and Dance in my second year. I was fascinated by the ‘right’  the Greeks think they have to attack Troy, ‘the barbarians’. It reminded me of what Isis did to the Jezidi at that time.

“Suppressing a nation. The danger of an army. The audience was placed in the middle of the room on a small plastic square and the play happened around it. Diede her six performers started as an army preparing for battle, performing rituals. Gradually the focus was placed on the audience and it became threatening and stuffy, both mentally and physically. “Auke Oosthoek.

Me and the performers we asked ourselves how far we could go in frightening, dispersing and intimidating the audience.
