Je bent zelf een akker
“I am not a field? How am I a field? What is a field? Wet. Flat. Black from the rain. I am not a field.”
In May 2015 I made and performed a solo called Je bent zelf een akkker (*No you are a field yourself) in the Chassestudio’s in Amsterdam west.
I’ve worked with the play Knifes in Hens by David Harrower. A beautiful play about a young woman who wants to learn how to write and starts asking questions. Is there no more in life than this village, the field, the horses and her much older, blunt man?
On the floor there was a large white paper, surrounded by the audience. I sat on the paper with a piece of charcoal and too big boots on. I rolled over the paper and drew circles, lines, shapes and the outline of my body
It was a solo about searching. About knowing that there is more and trying to escape from the village and the clay. About a strong woman who decides to make a journey. It was an ode to knowledge, language and art.
